Samurai WarriorsEdit

In Samurai Warriors 2, Masanobu serves as Hidetada's adviser at Ueda Castle. He urges the army to quickly take the castle or they'll be late to reinforce their lord at Sekigahara. Once Masayuki's flood attack is successful, Masanobu realizes that they blundered and will not make it in time for the battle. Frustrated, he tells the remaining army to take either Masayuki or Yukimura's head to save face for their failure. During Kojiro's Story Mode, he schemed to frame Hideyori for attempting to kill his lord and is surprised when a real assassination attempt was actually in progress. Although his name isn't always mentioned, Masanobu is also the elderly man who is sometimes seen beside Ieyasu during cutscenes.

KessenEdit

Often known as "Masa", he continues to act as one of Ieyasu's closest generals in Kessen. He frequently appears during the planning stages to present his lord with information. Intelligent and skilled in politics, he leads a very small group of archers into battle; his army rarely reaches the thousands range. Since Masanobu is often a mandatory character, it may be best to have him pursue smaller units due to his low War rating.

HistoryEdit

Honda Masanobu (本多正信?) (1538 – July 20, 1616) was a commander and daimyo in the service of Tokugawa Ieyasu in Japan during the Azuchi-Momoyama and Edo periods.

In 1563, when an uprising against Ieyasu occurred in Mikawa Province, Masanobu took the side of the peasants against Ieyasu. He fled from the Tokugawa, rejoining them in the 1570s or 1580s at the behest of Okubo Tadayo, and accompanied Ieyasu as he crossed Iga Province following the assassination of Oda Nobunaga at Honnō-ji.

Masanobu joined Tokugawa Hidetada's army for the march along the Nakasendō. En route, however, Hidetada attacked Sanada Masayuki at Ueda Castle against Masanobu's advice, and together they arrived late for the Battle of Sekigahara.

Masanobu was a member of the Tokugawa shogunate and ruled a Han in Sagami Province assessed at 20,000 koku. He was present at the Siege of Osaka in 1614. Masanobu died several weeks after Ieyasu in 1616.
